Laminaplasty (Cervical or Lumbar)

A laminaplasty procedure can have the same benefits as the laminotomy or laminectomy but works by enlarging the bony spinal canal without removing the lamina. In some ways, it is a re-sculpturing of the undersurface of the lamina thereby creating more room for the spinal cord and/or spinal nerves.

Laminaplasties still require a fairly large incision although less tissue is usually disturbed inside of the spinal canal. The operation can be technically demanding causing most spine surgeons to seek other options.
