Stiff Back

General Information

A “stiff back” is what patients general describe as a functional problem. It is usually due to spondylosis or facet arthritis. The term spinal stenosis may be used interchangeably with a stiff back because patients complain they can’t stand straight-up, they have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, they can’t walk distances, or, they cannot swing a golf club or bend to “tee it up” – to name a few. The “stiffness” is usually due to the bone spurs and arthritis but spinal stenosis may certainly be contributing to the problems as well.
