Curvature of the Spine

General Information

Curvature of the spine most commonly refers to a scoliosis deformity. It can be seen with a spondylolisthesis, or, by itself. A scoliosis is a deformity that occurs in the side to side plane, forming either a “C” shape or an “S” shape when looking at a patient from behind. Scoliosis deformities are common and generally do not require treatment except in severe cases. There are at least four different types of scoliosis depending on one’s age of onset and the underlying cause.
