Facet Arthritis Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How is facet arthritis diagnosed?
Since it can be difficult at times to isolate the exact cause of back or neck pain, the use of a procedure called a facet block can be helpful. This involves injecting a local anesthetic and sometime a cortisone preparation into and around the facet joint using a c-arm or television x-ray. An intervention pain specialist or spine surgeon will usually perform this test. It can also be used as a form of treatment much like any cortisone injection into a painful joint with good results.
